Our proprietary technology is based on the use of pyrimidine-tagged nucleic acids, a labeling approach developed 60 years ago to enable DNA sequencing by electron microscopy. We have vastly improved the process of DNA/RNA osmylation and established conditions to render it highly selective, efficient, and reproducible.  The use of pyrimidine-tagged nucleic acids addresses two key issues with sequencing/characterizing them via nanopores, i.e., the relative chemical similarity of the four nucleobases and the relatively fast speed by which unlabeled polymers translocate via nanopores. Both those issues take a large toll on the accuracy in base calling. Efficient labeling solves both issues paving the way for accurate nanopore-based sequencing/characterizing of DNA and RNA.
